Slow day

Didn’t get any writing done today. No, wait, I did some this morning. Not much but I did solve a problem I’d had earlier.

I just finished working on a worldbuild map for Centric. I like AutoRealm but it does make me wonder what the other map program is like.

Did laundry, ran the dishwasher, bathed myself (a difficult task) and played on the ‘puter. Yawner of a day, eh?

Enter Something Witty Here

I’m not used to having to come up with a ‘title’ for my blog entries so y’all just get used to such nonsense.

Anyway, didn’t get much writing done during the day then bam! I started writing finally. Got over 4700 words by the time my eyes gave out. I worked on The Graced again, deleting a bunch of crap I wrote yesterday. There ought to be a better word to use than ‘crap’. Superfluous? Excess?

The water pipes finally thawed out this afternoon. It warmed up nicely today, getting well into the forty’s before the sun started going down. If it gets as cold as it did before (single digits) then we’ll leave the water running in the kitchen. Lorna says she needs to get under the house and check the insulation on the pipes. *shudder*

I grew up with gravity fed water system, not a water pump. We have a spring, not a well, but they have the spring piped into a holding ‘tank’ and then the pump puts the water in a pressure tank which then pushes it to the house. Far too many points for something to go wrong.

At any rate, I can bathe now and flush the toilet. Ah. There’s a saying “You don’t appreciate the water ’til the well runs dry.”

Cold day!

I shivered more than my timbers this morning! Boy howdee it was cold!

Oh, and before I forget, I need to gather opinions. I am changing the look of my site. Trying out a few things. Anyway, these pages are new:
Airport
May Challenge
Butch Girls Can Do Anything

The original ‘theme’ is like these:
Simple Sarah
Scholarly Ways

If you don’t mind, let me know what you think of them in terms of readability and looks.

Haven’t gotten a darn thing written today. I’ve been playing webmaster instead. I have far too many websites to keep up with.

Snow Part Two

In case you haven’t figured it out, it is snowing here. It did off and on all day but typical for this time of the year, it didn’t lay. Even when it did kind of stick around, it only did so for a half hour tops. Then as the sun started going down, so did the temps. At the same time, the storm front finally realized it was supposed to be doing something and chose to do so.

Right now it is 18F with a windchill of 0F, according to WeatherWatcher. A local weather monitor and it says it is 13F. In other words, it is kinda cold here.

I’ve not looked outside in a while, the wind is just too sharp, but last Lorna looked we had about 1.5″ or so. Joella, my rottweiler, went out to do her business and came back looking like a Great Pyrenees!

Got some writing done, not much. Tried an idea out on The Graced but I don’t think it will work.

Tools we use

I use a lot of tools to write my stuff. I use OpenOffice as my word processor and my spreadsheet programs. I use WordWeb for a thesarus and a dictionary. I use Karen’s Power Tools such as the Time Cop to track my work time and to set alarms so I don’t get so lost in my worlds that I miss appointments. I use Copernic to do my web searches, usually when I need as much information as possible. I use AutoRealm to draw maps. Those are the programs that are on my computer.

On the ‘net my most visited site is Wikipedia, followed closely by Bartleby’s. Fiction Factor is an excellent resource.

The list goes on and on. Elsewhere on this site is my Resource section. I need to keep adding to it but it still is a decent listing.

What was my point with all this? Crap. Can’t remember. Sheesh.

Outline

I take the term ‘story outline’ literally. As in I make a numbered outline. I can’t help myself. Besides I love numbered outlines. Hey, never said I wasn’t weird!

I decided to work on a serious SW/Centric worldbuild outline. I got a lot of it done since I had bits and pieces of it scattered throughout three other documents. Tomorrow I will start laying out the scenes, those I have already and those I want to do.

At anyrate, I have some screenshots of the outline, to show you what I did with it. And, by the way, I love OpenOffice!!

I ordered myself a book and it finally got here today. And of course, I read it in just a few hours, dammit. It is Sierra City by Gerri Hill. Overall, it’s not a bad book. The characters are cool, and she is good at putting the reader right there (there’s that **** showing vs telling). The problem I had with the book is that it was predictable. It’s a lesbian romance so I guess the outcome was obvious from the beginning because, duh, it’s a romance. Just like a mystery we know we will find out who killed the butler by the end of the book. But at one point I wondered why I was bothering to read it. Lorna says it’s because I wasn’t reading it, I was editing it.

Despite my problem with the predictability, I really liked the book. I was kinda upset it ended, actually. It meant I had to turn back on the laptop and get to work. 😛

Writing with a headache…

…just ain’t possible. I am getting better at noticing the difference between a headache because of my neck and that same headache on its way to a migraine. I caught it in time today. Took my med, got tucked into bed with my ‘hose nose’ on, a pillow over my head, and concentrated on breathe in, breathe out.

I actually slept for about two hours. I woke up with it 95% gone. The final bit of it left after I ate and took another med.

I hate taking pills. I take far too many daily ones without adding in something like this. I take 17 pills a day from 9 different medications. 2 anti-depressants, 2 anti-hypertensions, and one each of anti-inflammatory, thyroid, potassium, muscle relaxer, and migraine. Then add in the PRN migraine med, the inhaler, and the muscle relaxer can be tripled. My pharmacy knows my voice on the phone.

Luckily, Medicaid pays for 6 prescriptions a month or else I would have to pay out over $500 a month. I still pay nearly $90 a month out of pocket. At one point I had 12 different medications.

We call my medications by nicknames so I don’t sound like a pill addict. Usually we go by appearance, especially if it is one I have been on for a long time. Like ‘blue thing’ or ‘purple football’. My muscle relaxer we call ‘laxer’. Anything we can do to take their mental power away. You know?

Nothing I have will kill me, which most days is a good thing. 😉

At any rate, I still managed to get 1562 words done today on ‘Scholarly Way/Centric’. Have you gone to read the snippet yet? Let me know what you think of it.

I need to do some more research about editing. Oy.
