Site Errors

Oops. My host had some issues and is still working on the problem. Seems the site is up now, at least.

This is after the billing problem earlier. It was quite the mess but it seems they have it fixed.

I love my host, though. It would take a lot for me to leave. Some people get their panties in a wad over things like this but, hey, it will happen no matter where ya go.

Database Error Messages

This site, as well as several others of mine, were down today due to database errors. This has been fixed. I, and my host, apologize profusely for the problem.

WordPress Blogroll vs Links

With the latest WordPress, there's been a flurry of bitchin' about one of the changes. I don't understand why the change was made nor the reasoning behind it.

Previously, if I wanted to share a link, I could add one with relative ease.

I went into the Admin. Went to Links. Went to Add Link. I added the link.

If the new link didn't fit into any of my categories, I added another by going to 'Link Categories'.

Posts also had categories. They can be made to help with sorting and searching through a blog's posts.

IE Update

I headed over to the WordPress support forum and asked about the sliding text. Someone pointed me to another similar thread where I found the disgustingly simple fix for it.

This is not an unusual problem and has several varieties. Position Is Everything has a good page of information about this problem.

CSS works by using the DIV command. IE can't figure out which DIV does what so it freaks. For some reason, all I had to do was add a border to the blockquote CSS.

blockquote {
	border-left: 5px solid #ccc;
	border-bottom: 5px solid #ccc;
	margin-left: 1.5em;
	background-color: #C5C3BF;
	padding-left: 5px;
	padding-top: 5px;
	padding-bottom: 5px; }

I already had the border-left so all I did was duplicate it for the border-bottom. So simple!

This problem has been addressed within the WordPress forum. This thread, IE Creeping Text and the Holy Hack, covers it and the solution is given. A second thread, My Content Slides, also covers this issue.

Again, if you use IE and have a problem with this site, let me know. Take a screenshot of the problem or describe it to me the best way you can. Meantime, I will make it a habit to check out my site via IE.

Attention IE Users

As far as I can tell, the sidebar issue is fixed (as in it broke below the keyword list).

The sliding text issue with the posts is still there.

Anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can fix it? I am willing to share my CSS and code for the set up.

Any other problems for IE users?

I can't fix what I don't know is broke and since y'all insist on using a broken browser (which 69% of the visitors do, so perhaps I ought to be nicer), I do need to do what I can to fix these problems.

Paying the Light Bill

I love my website host. Usually there are little to no problems. The knowlege base rocks, the service is quick-ish and the cost is well within my range.

There was a power outage in LA yesterday. Dreamhost is in LA. Despite having massive UPSs, several honkin' generators and other such stuff, DreamHost went down.

I was fine with it. I know how you can prepare for the worst and it's the mosquitos that bit you in the butt.

As of this moment, things are working, just a little slow. I suppose that once all the servers stop burping, it'll even out.

Hopefully all of my sites will soon be up and running around as usual.

Site problems

I've had some slow load times for all of my sites. Except for the one that is WordPress enabled. I doubt it is a WP thing though. I dumped the browser's cache and they finally loaded, although it was taking a long time.

In the world we have made, this worship of now-ism, waiting ten seconds longer than usual is painful.
