Deadline

Okay, I'm tired of me dragging my ass.

I am setting a deadline. Not a "try" deadline, but a "gotta" deadline.

Butch Girls and Stereotypes WILL be finished and edited by April 2nd. Of this year.

No word count goal. Just get 'er done goal. No reward, either. Just. Get. It. Done. Dammit.

No New Words

I've not gotten much writing done lately due to…various things.

I am about to start writing though, so I'll let y'all know how good/bad I did.

I have been busy though. I'm ordering postcards with the book's cover on it to send out to bookstores. I'm also ordering business cards, later, to use when I go visit places. I wrote a quick article for a lesbian e-zine to promote myself and the book. Lessee, what else did I do? I fed poor starving Sumo so he'd stop staring at me. Didn't work.

Simple Sarah is going great. I am at a thinking-slash-zen part right now and had to do some backing up to think myself. I think SS will be a good book, better than BG1 is. I think first books are never as good as they could be. I need confidence. I need to read reviews from people who know what they are saying. Know what I mean?

Speaking of reviews, the publisher sent a copy of the book to Books to Watch Out For, which is, in their words "all the buzz about lesbian, gay, and women's books and publishing". I'd visited the site before but you have to join to get the newsletter (and not a cheap one either). It is highly respected so I went ahead and subscribed. If they do a review of the book in their newsletter, well, I'd pass out but it would also be great for sales.

People who pre-ordered the book are getting them already so I should get some reviews in soon.

Wowzerz!

I did some writing today. Some patching and smoothing of where I'd pasted in that huge chunk o' scenes the other day. Then I started filling in a few scenes and working on the few days between where the added in part ended and the stuff I had started.

Loe and behoeld, I got 2068 words today! Wow!

Simple Sarah is now at 20118.

I like it when the words just happen. They flow out, fitting together. I like that.

However, Lorna's off tomorrow since I have an afternoon appointment (we are still down to one vehicle) so I don't know if I will have a repeat of today's success. We'll see.

Good Day

I managed to get over 2000 words done today on SS. I got through the tough scene, which is good. I probably wrote another 500 more words except I kept deleting them until I got it right. It happens.

The result is that the MC is stronger and starting out on a stronger footing. She's no longer the wimpy little thang she was in the first draft. I have to keep reminding myself that she is called SIMPLE Sarah for a reason. I need her to be strong but not over-bearing. Thin line.

I am going to assume that the contest I entered well over a year ago is defunct. I am going to submit the piece to elsewhere. Should I go for another contest or go for Muscadine Lines? It has been a while since I submitted anything over there. Hmm.

Today's Effort

Hard at work today, I am I am.

screenshot of the spreadsheet showing my progress up to the 5th of August

I sent the 2nd round section to Jane and I hope to catch up to where I stopped on the first round. After that, I need to do another 20 pages first round to catch up to my goal.

Whoever says writing the book is the hardest part needs to be slapped. Hard.

Progess

I hit the manuscript today and got a lot of work done. My goal was to reach around page 108. I stopped this afternoon on page 114.

Not bad, eh? I have reached the first major pivot point and decided it was a good place to stop and go back over some things. I like the fact that I am, basically, a third of the way done. Whoohoo!

And just because I seem to be in a visual kind of mood:

Close to 50K

I got some good progress in today. Still had some shuffling between files, pulling together some scenes I had written and fitting them in. I'm sure that the WIP now would read like it was written by a drunk.

At any rate, I got over 1500 words today and BG3 is just under 50K again. Which means just 40K to go and I can put it on the back burner to simmer. Its going to be a bitch to edit, but then, isn't everything??
